We encourage all athletes to be academically responsible. One of the program goals is to ensure our athletes can make the transition into college. In order to accomplish this goal, every student-athlete in our program must demonstrate an ability to maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA).

1.         Good Academic Standing Policy

All student-athletes are required to achieve and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 (out of 4.0). Cumulative GPA verification, the latest report card, must be submitted prior to or at tryouts. After acceptance into the program, student-athletes will be required to show proof that the minimum requirement is being met, via quarterly or end of the semester report cards.

As part of our commitment to remove the financial barriers often assocaited with competitive team sports, we have created an Academic Fee Reduction Program. To learn more, please visit our Financial Incentive Programs section.

Ka Ulukoa requires that all team members participate in community service. We encourage our student-athletes to be involved in any number of community based projects. Our goal is to help young athletes gain a better understanding of the world around them while giving back to a community that provides so much. Participants have one year to fulfill their requirement.

Age Group ------------> Hours of Community Service Required

12 and 13 -------------> 8 Hours

14 and 15 -------------> 16 Hours

16, 17, 18 -------------> 24 Hours

Visit our Community Service Page for Information on Projects and Programs we support.

Ka Ulukoa's primary objective is to foster national and international amateur sports competition. Accordingly, it is mandatory* that team members travel to all national events.

The requirement for each age group varies, but it gets progressive as the athletes get older. We start out by requiring that our 12 and under teams travel to one national venue. By the time our athletes are 16, they may travel as many as 4 times. The number of times we will be determined by the teams ability to compete and their aspirations. The higher the level and greater the aspirations, the more we are likley to travel.

Playing at a high level... Ka Ulukoa is committed to competing at a level that is appropriate for each team. In an attempt to fulfill this commitment, we have chosen to participate in events sponsored by either USA Volleyball or the Juniors Volleyball Directors Association.

International... we will be exploring the possibilities of traveling to international venues. Italy, Brazil, China, and Japan are among our target destinations. International venues will only be available to age groups that are 15 and older.

* Some exceptions may apply. Please check the Ka Ulukoa Handbook for more details.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Change to the Boys Club Season

There will be a shift in the boy’s club season in 2007/2008. The Hawaii State Scholastic Athletic Association has changed the Boys Volleyball season to comply with a Title IX ruling. The High School season has moved from the fall to the spring. Therefore, the boys club season which previously started in January, will now start in the fall, exhibit a break in the winter, and resume in late spring. Please see the description below for more detailed information.

Boys Season

The boy’s volleyball season will consist of two sessions: Session I and Session II.

Session I

Tryouts: September
Session Starts: September
Session Ends: January – SCVA Invitational (Open Qualifier)

Session II

Practice Resumes: May – After the HSSAA State Tournament
Session Ends: July – Boys Junior Olympic Volleyball Championship

Exception: The Boys 12 team will not be impacted by the HSSAA schedule change and will therefore coincide with the girls club season.

Boys 12

Tryouts: October/November
Practice Starts: January
Season Concludes: Girls Junior Olympic Volleyball Championship or other summer tournament

ACADEMIC FEE REDUCTION

Notice: Both the Boys and Girls Teams have a code of conduct policy. Essentially it's our Player Contract. Our parents have on too, but this section is dedicated to players. Take a peak at the Player Contract.
