Preparing your Student-Athlete for the Next Level

Ka Ulukoa has designed a youth program that fosters national and international amateur sports competition and educational opportunities for youth, with an eye towards preparing your student-athlete for the next level of competition - and life.

Ka Ulukoa has established a system of training that provides your student-athlete with far more than the technical and tactical aspect of volleyball. Our program focus is to create well-balanced, competitive teams that consist of academically responsible and community service oriented student-athletes.

Each student-athlete will have the option to take advantage of educational opportunities offered on topics such as performance coaching - guidance on the emotional aspect of the game, nutrition, injury prevention, strength training and more. Not to mention that team members receive discounts on all Ka Ulukoa clinics and workshops!

Interested in playing at a high level and being part of an advanced, fast paced style of play? Interested in preparing for tomorrow today?

The future of volleyball and life's lessons are being taught right here in Hawaii at Ka Ulukoa. Come join us.

Ka Ulukoa encourages all athletes to be academically responsible. One of the program goals is to ensure our athletes can make the transition into college. In order to accomplish this goal, every student-athlete in our program must demonstrate an ability to maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA).

Good Academic Standing Policy

All student-athletes are required to achieve and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 (out of 4.0). Cumulative GPA verification, the latest report card, must be submitted prior to or at tryouts. After acceptance into the program, student-athletes will be required to show proof that the minimum requirement is being met, via quarterly or end of the semester report cards.

As part of our commitment to remove the financial barriers often associated with competitive team sports, we have created an Academic Fee Reduction Program. To learn more, please visit our Financial Incentive Programs section.

Ka Ulukoa requires that all team members participate in community service. We encourage our student-athletes to be involved in any number of community based projects. Our goal is to help young athletes gain a better understanding of the world around them while giving back to a community that provides so much. Participants have one year to fulfill their requirement.

Ka Ulukoa's primary objective is to foster national and international amateur sports competition. Accordingly, it is mandatory* that travel team members participate at all national events.

The requirement for each age group varies, but it gets progressive as the athletes get older. We start out requiring our 12 and under teams travel to one national venue. By age 16, travel team members may participate in as many as 4 national events. The number of national venues a travel team enters will be determined by the teams ability to compete and their aspirations. The higher the level and greater the aspirations, the more likely we are to travel.

Playing at a high level... Ka Ulukoa is committed to competing at a level that is appropriate for each team. In an attempt to fulfill this commitment, we have chosen to participate in events sponsored by either USA Volleyball or the Juniors Volleyball Directors Association.

International... we will be exploring the possibilities of traveling to international venues. Italy, Brazil, China, and Japan are among our target destinations. International venues will only be available to age groups that are 15 and older.

* Some exceptions may apply. Please check the Ka Ulukoa Handbook for more details.
